GB San Clemente Jiu-Jitsu and Teens Risk Taking Behavior
Risk taking is one of the most important character traits of a champion and yet it remains very untouched.
As Martial Arts Instructors at Gracie Barra San Clemente Jiu-Jirtsu, we have safety as the number one rule of practice and follow strict methods to minimize risk of injuries on all classes.
However, it is very important for Gracie Barra BJJ students to learn to embrace risk. That does not mean to taking the risk of injury but to we must be willing to expose ourselves for the sake of higher levels of performance. To accomplish that, we must be aware of the risks we are taking and train to mitigate it.
This approach is specially important with the Gracie Barra San Clemente Jiu-Jitsu teenagers. Science is demonstrating that risk-taking behavior peeks at this age group and it is actually a very important factor into the development of children into adults of strong character.
The article below makes a very good point about the “Role of Risk Taking on a Teen’s Life“. We at Gracie Barra San Clemente Martial Arts believe Jiu-Jitsu can be very beneficial for teenager because it offers opportunities for taking risks in a controlled, healthy, and positive environment. At our school, teens can take risks to achieve higher levels of performance under supervision and guidance. Mistakes are natural shortcomings that we use to make them learn, grown and perform better next time.
“Obviously, negative risk taking should be discouraged, such as smoking, alcohol, illegal drugs, etc. But—healthy teens and twenty-somethings are going to want to spread their wings and try new things. And we, the adults, must let them”. Tim Elmore
