You May Not Ever Win, But You Never Loose

If you have ever seen the movie, Wreck It Ralph (clip below), this is such a great Disney movie.  Wreck It Ralph (an arcade game character) ends up in a different arcade game called Sugar Rush where he meets a girl named Glitch.  Glitch wants to be a the best racer  but she is considered the worst racer in the game because she is considered a glitch in the game.  However she doesn’t ever give up.

Before she starts the race, Ralph tells her, “Remember you don’t have to win, you just have to cross that finish line to become a real racer.”  Glitch replies, “I’m already a real racer and I’m gonna win.” – Glitch

How many times do we get overwhelmed by a lack of self confidence?  That we tend to doubt ourselves.  Especially in competition.  If Glitch showed up to the race and everyone else in the race got sick, do you think she would feel like a winner because she got a medal?  Or do you think if she competed against everyone else and lost she would feel more accomplished and confident?

In an article from character community, the article talks about how good competition makes the award so much meaningful.  By having good competition, it not only is more rewarding but it also pushes us further, especially in BJJ.  In Jiu-Jitsu, there are competitions all the time.  Although we may never win, we never loose.  As Carlos Gracie Jr. said, “There is no loosing in Jiu-Jitsu, you either win or you learn.”  Like Glitch, in Wreck it Ralph, she was competing against the best racers in Sugar Rush.  At the end of the movie, she ends up winning the race and the award was so much more meaningful because she competed against the best.  Although we may not win like Glitch, we never loose because we push ourselves to a higher level with competition.
