Pros And Cons Tights Vs. Shorts

Many of you that practice Jiu-Jitsu knows that you need to wear something under your gi.  In the gym, the question arises which is better the tights or the gym shorts for Jiu-Jitsu?  Are you having a hard time figuring out which one you want to get?  Although everyone has a different preference, we decided to make a pros and cons list for each product



  • Makes you lighter
  • Less resistance
  • Cooler
  • More flexibility


  • Tight
  • Can be uncomfortable if you aren’t used to wearing them.
  • It’s harder to escape the mount



  • More protection
  • comfortable if you don’t like shorts clinging to you like tights
  • Doesn’t hold into moisture


  • Can get tangled up
  • Hotter
  • Heavier
  • If they get wet and soggy they may cling to your leg

What do you prefer to wear on the mats under your gi?
