We all hear great stories about war Heros, but we know very little about what heroes go through to heal from the wounds acquired through battle.
Marines are a part of San Clemente life and definitely a part of Gracie Barra San Clemente. Twenty to thirty percent of our student population are marines, former marines or immediate family of marines.
Since our foundation in 2008, we have done as much as we can to bring the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu and martial arts to Camp Pedlenton and the Marines.
For the first time though, we are getting involved with a program that was conceived to help wounded marines get back to a normal life.
Our involvement came through an invitation from Another Gracie Barra black belt and former marine Chad Robichaux. Chad leads an amazing non-profit program called “The Mighty Oaks Foundation” that offers a free program to support marines diagnosed with Prost Traumatic Stress Disorder. Chad has incorporated elements of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Martial Arts into the program because he himself fought PTSD through martial arts training, grappling and fighting professionally in MMA.
Last Wednesday, GB San Clemente Martial Arts Head Instructor Prof. Flavio Almeida went to a special event and the wounded warriors department to join forces with Prof. Chad on his mission to support wounded marines.
Flavio was at the base together with Ryan Ritcey, our program director, to Invite the marines to a special event to Be hosted at GB San Clemente on Saturday, September 21st.
Fighting the Battle Within will be a special Jiu-Jitsu and motivational seminar for anyone in San Clemente interested in martial arts, sports, military, etc. On that morning, Prof. Chad will share his stories, teach the finest Jiu-Jitsu and sign his best selling book.
